EAPCC signs plant upgrade contract

East African Portland Cement Company has signed a contract with a Danish company for the upgrade of the existing cement production system.

FLSmidth Automation (FLSA), which has a long-standing relationship with EAPCC, will revamp the automation system to bring it to the level of other reputable cement manufacturers in the world. The company should complete the work by the end of the year.

This is part of EAPCC’s strategic restructuring that would see the company double its cement production capacity in slightly less than two years. The main plank of the restructuring process is the installation of a new mill, whose tendering process was finalised recently.

Mr Ole Mapelu Zakayo, the Managing Director, said the company was on course with its plans to boost its production capacity in order to meet rising demand for cement locally and in the region. “It is important that we work with a reputable company in upgrading our system so as to be assured of a secure and consistently working automation system. I’m sure they will deliver within schedule.”
Next month EAPCC will send teams of maintenance and production personnel to Copenhagen for a comprehensive training package to ensure a smooth transition into the revamped system.
