2009 Quattro Charge

EAPCC proudly hosted the first stage of the 2009 Quattro Charge - 4 X 4 Trail Challenge championship at the Kunkur Quarry grounds. The event that saw over 80 entrants in the various disciplines, brought together hundreds of 4 X 4 fans who were eager to cheer their favorite team to victory.

The Machines
The competition vehicles looked somewhat like a cross breed between an offroader an army tank. Reinforced suspensions, internal/external rollcages, massive tyres and engine notes that reminded us of thunderstorms were the order of the day at the quarry as the machines tackled the various competitive stages. One could only stare in awe as they continually defied all the laws of physics.

The Drivers/Navigators
One would expect the drivers of the behemoths to have been somewhat similar to their machines in size and stature, this could not be further from the truth. The men/women in the vehicles were as normal as you and me, occassionally stopping to have a drink of water and chat with the fans. However, it is when they entered their vehicles that the difference became clear. A perfect amalgamation of man and machine that was the highlight of the day's events.

Up Up and Away - One of the cars tackles the hill climb section at the 2009 Quattro Charge

Crossing of Doom - One of the cars jumps into the water in a manner similar.

The Challenge
The Quattro Charge was made up of various competitive stages, with the main ones being:-
Stage 1. This stage saw the drivers tackle harsh spiralling uphill and downhill sections that tested their ability to control their behemoths on the grip defying surface.

Stage 2. This stage took the drivers through the river crossing stage that has come to be known as "THE PUNISHER" (Due to its high attrition rate for suspensions and transmissions). Here the drivers had to plough their way through a 2-3 foot deep muddy river. The stage tested their vehicles power and grip capability as the bank where they were to emerge was almost 2 1/2 feet high. This stage saw the largest assembly of fans as it enabled them to be as close to the action as physically possible.

All being said EAPCC presented the perfect grounds for a fun filled day that saw thousands of Kenyans identify with EAPCC and our product Blue Triangle Cement.

Yes We Can! Or Can We? This seems to be the question the navigator (head popping out of window) is asking the driver
